JOHOR BARU – The Entrepreneurship and Cooperative Development Ministry will consider establishing a cooperatives federation for public higher education institutions (IPTA) and teacher education institutes (IPG).
Minister Tan Sri Noh Omar said the proposal to establish this federation for IPTA and IPG under the Cooperatives Commission of Malaysia was a step to create entrepreneurial culture among students and future educators.
“Across the country, there are already 14,000 cooperatives. Previously, I had suggested setting up a federation for school cooperatives, maybe we can consider establishing a federation of cooperatives for IPG and IPTA.
“When we set up (the federations) at the IPTA and IPG level, these students will have a group where they have the opportunity to exchange ideas, discuss, and plan how to coordinate the activities because cooperatives not only involve grocery stores, but also other fields of entrepreneurship,” he said.
He told this to reporters officiating IPG Kampus Temenggong Ibrahim’s Anak Seri Temenggong annual dinner here last night.
Last month, Noh said that he would establish a federation of school cooperatives as a step to further empower cooperatives in the country. It will involve 2,463 primary and secondary school cooperatives.
In this regard, he said the proposal to establish a cooperatives federation for higher learning institutions is seen as a platform to train students on entrepreneurial and leadership characteristics. – Bernama, September 22, 2022
