KUALA LUMPUR – The Education Ministry today denied issuing a circular ordering all heads of department, state education directors, and school principals, along with teachers and students, to watch a biopic about Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim.
The ministry said it had never issued any such directive on the film screening as reported.
Earlier, a circular allegedly from Education Director-General Datuk Pkharuddin Ghazali stated that Education Minister Fadhlina Sidek had asked all heads of department, state education directors and principals to watch the biopic Anwar: The Untold Story at the nearest cinema.
They were to be accompanied by teachers and students.
A few days earlier, SMK Putrajaya Presint 5 confirmed it had screened the movie with Fadhlina in attendance.
The screening was organised by the ministry and was strongly criticised by social media users.
However, the school administration later said the screening was merely an extra-curricular activity and none of the students were forced to watch it.
The movie was released on May 18. – The Vibes, May 29, 2023
