KUALA LUMPUR – Umno launched a Malay Education Fund today to help underprivileged students further their studies.
The fund was launched by Umno president Datuk Seri Ahmad Zahid Hamidi during the presidential briefing at Dewan Merdeka, World Trade Centre here.
At the ceremony, Zahid and Umno deputy president Datuk Seri Mohamad Hasan each contributed RM5,000 and RM3,000, respectively, to the fund.
Meanwhile, Umno secretary-general Datuk Asyraf Wajdi Dusuki said the aid that will be channelled through the fund is not only limited to Umno members but is open to any Malay and Bumiputera students in need.
“The idea of this Malay Education Fund was mooted by president Datuk Seri Ahmad Zahid Hamidi in the last Supreme Council meeting.
“... It is to help Malay children in need, for example (students) who face a disaster or tragedy or who want to pursue their education but have problems making advance payments,” he told reporters after the briefing.
The Majlis Amanah Rakyat chairman also said that the fund would be audited by an authorised party to ensure transparency, and the report would be made available to all quarters. – Bernama, June 7, 2023
