MELAKA – Today will see a last-minute push by candidates to convince voters in Melaka of their election pitch, ahead of tomorrow’s polling day.
However, the 12-day campaign period saw a departure from the usual door-to-door visits and night ceramahs as the Election Commission moved to impose standard operating procedures to avoid Covid-19 infection clusters.
This led to unique approaches by some candidates – some distributed flyers on e-scooters, motorcycles, and four-wheel drives, and some went on limited walkabouts while having meals with the locals.
Some also met congregations at mosques, while others relied on social media to push their messages.
Pakatan Harapan’s chief minister hopeful Adly Zahari is regularly seen on his e-scooter in Bukit Katil as he goes around distributing campaign materials.
Merlimau incumbent Dr Muhamad Akmal Saleh of Umno is no stranger to locals as he has a clinic providing basic medical services in the area.
In any case, tomorrow is the day Melaka decides. It remains to be seen which coalition will come up tops. – The Vibes, November 19, 2021
