AS the opening act for Coldplay in concert tonight, local rapper Bunga Isme said she was excited but nervous about sharing the stage with the popular British rock band.
The 23-year-old artiste, whose name is Noor Ayu Fatini Mohd Bakhari, said despite the butterflies, she was thrilled to have been chosen as the opening act.
“I am really looking forward to it and am geared up to give my best during my 20-minute slot at the concert,” she said.
She is tipped to perform five songs tonight – Intan Payung, Apadehal, Jiwaraga, Belai and Buai.
“Many have high expectations for me and I will do my best not to disappoint anyone.
“I know I still have a long way to go in the industry and my biggest goal now is to build chemistry with the audience and interact with the big crowd,” she said.
Coldplay will perform at the Bukit Jalil National Stadium tonight as part of its Music of the Spheres World Tour.
Several parties earlier called for the concert to be cancelled to respect the crisis in Gaza.
Some also voiced concern the concert would promote hedonism as the band supports the LGBT community.
When asked about this in parliament yesterday, Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim said Coldplay was pro-Palestine.
He however added he would speak with the Federal Territories mufti, who had issued a statement calling for the concert to be called off, on the matter.
“Coldplay is among bands that support Palestine, so there is a small problem, I have to say, even the previous government had approved it. I will discuss this with the mufti regarding the situation.
“As there are lobbyists from the Palestinian movement who support (the concert) and have given their views to the foreign minister and my office, why should we stop a group that supports the Palestinian cause from performing?” he asked. – The Vibes, November 22, 2023.
