THE Islamic Literature Society (ILS) is celebrating its golden jubilee with a three-day conference from May 9-11 in Tiruchi to showcase the diverse perspectives from indigenous and diaspora Tamil Muslim scholars.
The event was inaugurated by Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M.K. Stalin and Deputy Chief Minister Udhayanidhi Stalin.
MIC deputy president Datuk Seri M. Saravanan, who was also invited for the event said the significant contribution of Tamil Muslims to the growth and global spread of the Tamil language, achieved through their international trade, has not been adequately documented.
The Tapah Member of Parliament said more initiatives be undertaken to record their history, emphasising their role in taking Tamil across the world with their commercial endeavours.

“The historical role of Tamil Muslims in the spread of the language through their successful global trade must be documented.
“Their commercial activities were instrumental in Tamil's worldwide expansion and their contributions deserve proper recording,” he said at the event.
Saravanan also expressed his willingness to collaborate on hosting the 10th World Islamic Tamil Literary Conference in Malaysia.
The former Human Resources Minister praised the successful organisation of the conference in Trichy by the Islamic Literary Society, and the inauguration by Stalin.
He noted the Chief Minister's prioritisation of the Tamil Muslim community amidst escalating regional tensions. – May 11, 2025
