THE MALAYSIAN Society for Quality in Health (MSQH) proudly commemorated a significant milestone in its history as it marked its 25 years of unwavering dedication to excellence in healthcare quality and safety. The auspicious occasion was celebrated during the MSQH 25th Silver Jubilee Anniversary Book Launch and Award, held on February 22, 2024, at The Everly Putrajaya. This event also spotlighted MSQH's remarkable journey and its profound impact on healthcare standards throughout Malaysia.

A highlight of the event was the unveiling of the publication titled ‘MSQH 25 Years – A Journey of Continuous Improvement’ coffee table book. This commemorative book serves as a testament to MSQH's evolution since its establishment in 1997. It also chronicled the society's transformative journey, recognising the milestones achieved and expressing gratitude to stakeholders who have contributed to shaping MSQH's past, present, and future.

In its nascent days, the foundations of MSQH can be traced back to the visionary leadership of key figures such as Tun Ahmad Sarji and Tan Sri Dr Abdul Khalid Sahan, who laid the groundwork for healthcare quality enhancement initiatives in Malaysia.

Under the guidance of Tan Sri Dr Abu Bakar Suleiman and Tan Sri Siti Sa’diah Sheikh Bakir, MSQH was formally established in 1997, marking the beginning of a transformative era in Malaysian healthcare.

Throughout its 25-year journey the organisation has emerged as a beacon of excellence, spearheading accreditation programmes that have elevated healthcare standards across the nation at international standards. Through strategic alliances with governmental bodies, healthcare organisations, and international partners, MSQH has championed quality and safety in the healthcare arena.

MSQH’s achievements over the past 25 years truly reflect its pivotal role as the national healthcare facility and service accreditation body in Malaysia. From its humble beginnings MSQH has evolved to establish the sixth edition of Hospital Accreditation Standards, along with editions for chronic dialysis treatment, dental clinic, and medical clinic accreditation standards. Today, close to 200 public and private hospitals across the nation proudly bear the MSQH accreditation.

Awards were handed out to key personnel from within the organisation and both public and private facilities who have raised the standard of care and are now recognised as amongst the best in Malaysia.

In his address, Dr Abu Bakar, who is now MSQH adviser, remarked: “It is heartening to note that the MSQH Accreditation Programme, a 100% locally owned peer-review process, stands as a beacon of Malaysian pride in our healthcare system." – The Vibes, March 2, 2024
