A WOMAN from Port Dickson recently took to social media to voice her dissatisfaction after she was denied entry in the Cyberjaya Hospital for wearing a sleeveless dress.
She said security guards at the hospital told her she did not comply with the required dress code.
"I was taken aback by this enforcement, as I was dressed modestly and appropriately.
"I was informed by two female security guards that “your arms are showing,” which apparently constituted a violation.
"I made it clear that I did not find anything wrong with my clothing and told the guards that I would take full responsibility and inform the relevant authorities that they were simply following instructions," she wrote.
She said that while she understood that institutions may set basic guidelines for decorum, she found it deeply troubling that a public hospital—an essential service—would impose such a restrictive and arguably discriminatory dress code.
"Hospitals are not religious spaces, and access to healthcare should never be subject to such arbitrary standards of attire. This policy raises serious concerns about inclusivity, accessibility, and gender bias.
"I believe it is in the public interest to ensure that hospitals remain accessible and welcoming to all, regardless of their clothing choices—as long as they are modest and respectful," she said.
She added that she insisted on visiting her brother as she had travelled from Port Dickson and eventually was only allowed to for five minutes.
