A WOMAN injured in the Jalan Sultan Ismail crash that killed her husband and two daughters is still asking for them, apparently unaware that all three died in the accident.

Norhayati Razali, 55, was among four family members struck by an Immigration Department lorry near the Maju Junction traffic lights at about 1 am on Wednesday.

She suffered injuries to her head, hands and both legs and remains at Kuala Lumpur Hospital.

According to a family friend who visited her, Norhayati does not appear to remember what happened.

The friend said Norhayati was shown photographs of her husband, Shaik Mohd Firdaus Shaikh Yahya, 53, and daughters Siti Nor Sazlin, 25, and Siti Darwisyah Auni, 12, but still could not recall that they had died.

Instead, she asked about her husband.

“She asked why her husband hadn’t come to see her,” the friend said in a tearful video shared on Facebook.

The video was later reposted by the friend’s mother.

The three family members were killed after the Immigration Department lorry crashed into them as they were walking at the junction along Jalan Sultan Ismail.

Norhayati was also hit in the crash and survived.

The incident has since led to criminal proceedings against the lorry driver, Mohd Akbar Zainol.

He was charged at the Kuala Lumpur Magistrate’s Court on Thursday with five offences, including three counts under Section 41(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987 for allegedly causing the deaths of the three family members.

He was also charged under Section 43(1) of the same Act for allegedly driving without due care and attention, resulting in injuries to Norhayati.

Mohd Akbar pleaded not guilty to all charges and was granted RM60,000 bail.

As Norhayati recovers in hospital, her family and friends are left to deal with a difficult reality — she is still waiting for the people she does not yet know she has lost. – August 22, 2026
