THE Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC) and the Malaysian Investment Development Authority (MIDA) have reinforced their strategic partnership to drive Malaysia’s industrial transformation through 5G technologies.

The collaboration was highlighted during the “Powering Smart Industries” segment at the MIDA Flagship Investment Seminar: The Industrial Cluster Development Initiative for the Central Region, held from 11 to 12 November 2025 at the Royale Chulan Kuala Lumpur.

The seminar gathered senior representatives from leading industries, chambers of commerce, and government agencies to plan the next phase of regional industrial growth in the central corridor, encompassing the Federal Territories, Selangor, Negeri Sembilan, and Melaka, which collectively contribute nearly half of Malaysia’s GDP and anchor key sectors including electronics, automotive, logistics, and advanced technology.

MCMC’s involvement forms part of the Memorandum of Understanding signed with MIDA on 4 July 2024, which aims to promote awareness and readiness for 5G adoption among industries, verticals, and small and medium enterprises (SMEs).

“Through practical demonstrations and business consultations, we aim to show how 5G-enabled technologies can transform operations and strengthen Malaysia’s industrial ecosystem,” said an MCMC spokesperson.

As part of the initiative, MCMC and mobile network operators—including CelcomDigi, Maxis, TM, U Mobile, and YTL—hosted a 5G Technology Showcase and Enterprise 5G Business Clinic, offering enterprises hands-on consultations with solution experts.

The showcase demonstrated real-world applications of 5G, from smart manufacturing to real-time analytics.

Additionally, MCMC highlighted its national initiatives, including NEXUS, PRIME, NXT, Check Your Label, and Kempen Internet Selamat, at the Showcase Pavilion to foster awareness and industry engagement.

Through these combined efforts, MCMC and MIDA reaffirm their commitment to accelerate industrial competitiveness and facilitate Malaysia’s transition towards a 5G-powered economy, ensuring that businesses are equipped to thrive in an increasingly connected world. - November 12, 2025
