Unusual congestion in Klang Valley ahead of Chinese New Year

TRAFFIC congestion around the city centre is due to the increase in public movement in conjunction with the Chinese New Year celebration.

Kuala Lumpur Traffic Enforcement and Investigation Department (TEID) chief Assistant Commissioner Mohd Zamzuri Mohd Isa said many are taking the opportunity to go out shopping, especially in the Bukit Bintang area, which is one of the main locations for city residents and tourists.

He told Sinar Harian that traffic congestion also occurred due to the Conference of Rulers, which is still taking place in Kuala Lumpur from 10 to 12 February.

“In addition, the unpredictable weather conditions, whether hot or rainy, have also led to an increase in the use of four-wheeled vehicles compared to motorcycles, thus increasing the number of vehicles on the road,” he said.

Mohd Zamzuri advised road users to plan their journeys, obey traffic regulations and use public transport.

Earlier, a viral post uploaded on social media showed unusual traffic congestion on several main roads around the Klang Valley, especially in Kuala Lumpur and nearby urban areas.

A social media user shared a traffic map showing that most of the main routes in the capital were at a congested level, with traffic flowing in red.

Based on the map displayed, congestion was clearly visible on most routes in the Kuala Lumpur city centre, including the main road network connecting business and residential areas in the capital. – February 12, 2026
