KUALA Lumpur-born entrepreneur and mother of one has turned her passion for fitness into a life-changing achievement after completing a demanding trek to Everest Base Camp.

Reaching 5,364 metres above sea level, Thamayanthi Thevy Thiagrajan, 47, said the nine-day expedition tested her endurance, discipline and mental strength.

Trekking with a group of 10 organised by Hiking Adventures Malaysia (HAM), she navigated steep mountain trails, remote Himalayan villages and unpredictable weather ranging from rain.

Driven by her love for fitness, Thamayanthi treated the expedition as a personal challenge, hiking up to seven hours daily and maintaining a vegetarian diet throughout. Battling cold temperatures and thin air, she described the climb as physically intense, requiring focus with every step.

“I knew it would be tough, but I had prepared for it,” she said as reported by Bernama.

Her perseverance paid off when she finally reached her goal.

“The reward came when I caught my first glimpse of Everest. Seeing it in real life made everything feel worth it,” she said.

The expedition, held from April 5 to 13, ended successfully despite the harsh conditions. Everest Base Camp, at 5,364 metres, is the main staging point for climbers attempting to summit Mount Everest, the world’s highest peak at 8,848 metres, and remains a popular destination for trekkers worldwide. – April 26, 2026
