AIRASIA pilots won praise online for executing a dramatic crosswind landing during strong winds in Taiwan recently.

A video of the incident at the Taiwan Taoyuan International Airport on May 4 showing the aircraft being manoeuvred against heavy winds has gone viral.

In the video, the AirAsia Airbus A320 is seen battling powerful winds as it approaches the runway and is seen performing what is known in aviation as a crosswind landing, sometimes called “crabbing”.

According to comments, pilots are rigorously trained and undergo regular recurrent simulator sessions to handle such situations professionally and safely.

What passengers may see as “just another rough landing” actually involves strict aviation regulations, precise judgment, and immense responsibility placed on the flight crew. – May 13, 2026
