MICROIP has secured a US$20 million (RM83.8 million) contract to provide system integration for a major smart residential development in Taiwan, giving the company a foothold in large-scale projects beyond its core chip design business.

The 36-month project is scheduled to begin in October, initially covering system architecture planning and project management. MICROIP will oversee the overall system architecture and integration.

The company said its technology would allow data generated within the residential development to be processed locally, reducing reliance on cloud-based services.

This would help cut data processing delays and network bandwidth use, while keeping residents’ personal data stored on-site.

The project will include AI-based vision recognition, energy management and connected building systems, which MICROIP said would be integrated into the development’s operational infrastructure.

The company said revenue from the project would be recognised progressively over the 36-month period under the percentage-of-completion method in accordance with IFRS 15.

Work will be carried out in stages, covering system architecture, software and hardware integration, interfacing with AI platforms and final validation of the various subsystems.

Revenue will be recognised as each stage is completed and formally handed over.

MICROIP did not disclose the identity of the client, citing confidentiality obligations under a non-disclosure agreement.

The contract marks a further move by the company into system integration, building on its existing semiconductor and Edge AI capabilities.

MICROIP said it would continue pursuing opportunities in smart buildings, security and smart manufacturing as demand grows for systems capable of processing data closer to where it is generated. - September 11, 2026
