SERIAN recorded Malaysia’s highest air pollution index (API) reading at 173 this morning, as haze continued to affect seven areas in Sarawak despite improving air quality across most of the country.
Data from the Air Pollutant Index Management System (APIMS) showed that Samarahan recorded the second-highest reading at 160, followed by Kuching at 159.
Other Sarawak areas with unhealthy air quality were Sarikei at 157, Sibu at 154, Sri Aman at 139 and Mukah at 109.
Across the country, 29 monitoring stations recorded good air quality, with readings between zero and 50, while another 32 reported moderate levels of between 51 and 100.
An API reading of 101 to 200 is classified as unhealthy, 201 to 300 as very unhealthy, and above 300 as hazardous.- October 26, 2026
