PAS is almost certain to contest three state seats —Semariang, Sebuyau, and Beting Maro in the 13th Sarawak State Election, subject to the approval of the party's top leadership.

Sarawak PAS Commissioner Mohammad Arifiriazul Paijo said the three seats have been proposed for final confirmation at the central level, and that the party’s election machinery for these constituencies is ready.

He added that the party is also considering an additional state seat in northern Sarawak within either the Bintulu or Sibuti parliamentary constituencies, but is not prepared to make an announcement yet.

"God willing, it is almost certain that we will contest these three state seats, though it remains subject to a decision by the party's top leadership.

"As for additional seats, we are not yet in a position to announce them today; we must wait until the right time," he said during a Sarawak PAS press conference today.

He said Sarawak PAS has already mobilised its machinery in preparation for the state election and has a shortlist of candidates for the three identified seats.

According to him, the selection of Semariang takes into account, among other factors, its status as a traditional seat for PAS, having been contested by the party in previous elections as well as its importance as a constituency for highlighting PAS’s aspirations at the state level.

"As for Sebuyau, it falls within the Batang Lupar parliamentary constituency; contesting this seat is also viewed as part of PAS's preparation for the 16th General Election (GE16), which is expected to take place soon. "It is hoped that the momentum built through this state election will facilitate our preparations for the upcoming parliamentary elections," he said.

Regarding the possibility of PAS contesting independently or in alliance with other parties, he noted that discussions with several political partners are still ongoing and have not yet been finalised.

He noted that PAS's victory in Sabah during the recent state election has served as a morale booster for PAS Sarawak, particularly in the party's efforts to expand its influence in Borneo.

According to him, PAS Sarawak now has over 8,000 members, and they have been working diligently from the 2021 state election to the present day to continue serving the community.

Yesterday, the Premier of Sarawak, Tan Sri Abang Johari Abang Openg, announced that the Sarawak State Legislative Assembly would be dissolved effective October 26, paving the way for the 13th Sarawak State Election. – October 24, 2026
