PEOPLE who reside in Selangor will have a replacement public holiday on Monday, Oct 26, to mark the Silver Jubilee of Sultan Sharafuddin Idris Shah, whose 25th anniversary as ruler falls on Sunday, Oct 25.

State Secretary Datuk Dr Ahmad Fadzli Ahmad Tajuddin said Oct 25 had been declared a special public holiday throughout Selangor, with the following day designated as a replacement holiday because the anniversary falls on a Sunday.

“The Selangor state government is announcing this special holiday to further enliven this historic celebration with the people,” he said at a press conference at the state secretariat building.

A total of 20 official programmes and events have been scheduled from Sept 28 to Nov 1 to commemorate the milestone and express the administration’s and public’s loyalty, respect and gratitude to the Sultan.

Ahmad Fadzli said the programmes had been presented to the Sultan and covered community affairs, religious activities, environmental sustainability, infrastructure development and sports.

He said the state government would also adhere to the Sultan’s wishes for the celebrations to be conducted modestly, prudently and with meaningful impact, without unnecessary expenditure.

The main celebrations will take place on Oct 25, marking 25 years of the Sultan’s reign, and will include three principal ceremonies, among them a guard of honour inspection accompanied by a 21-gun salute.

Religious events will include a Yasin recitation and thanksgiving prayers, as well as a religious gathering and forum.

Historical and heritage initiatives will feature the launch of a commemorative envelope and stamps, a commemorative coin and a book titled Menjulang Takhta

The celebrations will conclude on Nov 1 with a ceremony honouring the proclamation of the titles of palace dignitaries and Selangor royal dignitaries, followed by the presentation of state honours. - October 23, 2026
