PET Lovers Centre (PLC), the largest pet retail chain in Malaysia, ended 2020 with an impactful CSR initiative by collecting a total of 6,818.89kg of pet food during its 5th Annual Pet Food Drive, to be distributed across four Animal Welfare Groups (AWGs).
Aptly themed “Animal Shelters Need Relief During Covid-19 Too!”, the campaign ran from December 11, 2020 to December 31, 2020 with the aim to support its beneficiaries that have been facing difficulties in raising funds during the periods affected by the Covid-19 pandemic.
“The Covid-19 pandemic has affected the efforts of many AWGs nationwide. We are happy to have been able to offer our beneficiaries relief through our signature CSR campaign that collected double the amount of food compared to the previous year. It brings us pleasure to see generous Malaysians supporting animal welfare during this difficult period,” said Bryan Boo, Operations Director of PLC Malaysia.
Collaborating AWGs includes Paws Animal Welfare Shelter (PAWS) — a non-profit animal shelter, home to over 500 animals in Petaling Jaya; Save A Stray Malaysia (SASM) — a non-governmental organisation focused on educating the public about sterilisation to manage strays; Homeless & Orphan Pets Exist (HOPE) — a Johor based pet shelter with over 3,000 rescues; and Cat Beach Sanctuary (CBS) — a cat shelter, housing over 300 cats and kittens located in Penang.
These organisations were at capacity with their rescues and needed relief in the form of food to sustain the livelihood of the animals they harbour and focus on helping more animals in need.
"PAWS is truly humbled and grateful for the tremendous support shown by PLC throughout the many years. Even during this time of adversity faced by people the world over, PLC has graciously remained steadfast in helping us safeguard the welfare of the homeless and less fortunate pets,” said Edward Lim, Shelter Manager of PAWS.
“Not only does Pet Lovers Centre strive to meet companion pets and their beloved parents’ needs. They ensure their abandoned and street brothers and sisters are cared for by motivating their clients to spread their blessings to them too,“ added Jacqueline Tsang, Founder of SASM.
As the purveyor of holistic animal welfare, PLC was aware of the toll the pandemic and movement control restrictions have taken on AWGs nationwide. They were facing financial troubles due to falling donations as well as workforce crunch.
Upping the ante, this year’s event was PLC’s first multi-platform pet food drive where contributions can be done in-store, online and via a hotline. This was to make the purchase of these pet food more convenient to Malaysians who can help in the comfort of their own homes.

“This was our second time participating in this meaningful campaign. We have received lots of love and help beyond expected. All of our fur kids have benefited a lot,” Francis from HOPE added.
Additionally, PLC also recently launched an all-new service, Pet Mover — a highly-demanded and all-inclusive pet relocation service by well-trained experts to handle the animals being shipped from one location to another to ensure their wellbeing.
This new service in Malaysia is done in partnership with Pampered Pets, one of the best pet movers in Singapore, Approved Pet Travel Specialist with Qantas Freight and a verified member of the International Pet and Animal Transportation Association (Ipata).
This service will elevate moving experiences for pets to ensure they are handled in the best way possible to avoid stress due to significant shifts in their surroundings.
