Unblocking emotional pain to heal your body
Turning a blind eye to unresolved childhood issues would result in it manifesting pain and ill health. – Pixabay pic, May 24, 2021

SIX years ago, when I started on the journey to self-love, I always heard comments like, “Your body is a temple. You only have one and it’s your choice on how you treat this body”. I never fully grasped the deeper meaning of this until my body started showing signs of breakdown and self-abuse.

It isn’t the physical pain that shows. It is the internal pain that hurts the most. No matter how well I treated myself to cleaner eating, pampering myself with spa massages and exercise regimes, my body was hurting. It was all because I was not listening to my body properly.

Metaphorically speaking, I had put my body in the freezer for a very long time. I suppressed my emotions since childhood and it has affected my health now that I’m much older. I never realised that by ignoring the hurts and frustrations, turning a blind eye to unresolved childhood issues would result in it manifesting pain and ill health to such extremes.

I have tried many forms of meditation over several years and I am now in the phase of Intuitive Movement meditation. It is a similar approach to “intuitive movement” exercise and eating.

It encourages you to tune in and trust your body. It is a practice of being mindful and being present with your body and listening to your internal cues like the sharp pain in your shoulder or even the bloating in your stomach.

When I first did this meditation, I felt so depressed about how I had ignored my body and the emotions that are trapped in it. I had always been searching for external solutions to fulfil my happiness temporarily but never took the step to go within to have a true conversation with myself.

After multiple practices of this meditation, I felt a great connection and liberation as I allowed my body to express itself and to be able to feel all my past experiences in the raw. It was through this method of body connection that I started to feel more comfortable within my own skin.

With Intuitive Movement meditation, I discovered just how much my body has been working for me in terms of storing the unprocessed emotional energy within my physical body.

Intuitive Movement meditation helped me to release stagnant emotions from bygone decades that were stuck in my spine, shoulders, and knees. I am now more confident with my body image and am able to express myself more fully in all areas of my life.

Your body is instrumental in the healing of both your mind and soul. Your body’s natural state is clarity and balance. By understanding these, you will start to enjoy a healthier relationship with your body, mind & soul. – The Vibes, May 24, 2021

How to do your own intuitive movement meditation:

  • Get your music ready. Select something that rings with your heart.
  • Set your intention at the beginning of your session – for example,  to honour your body and to release stuck emotions
  • Suggested duration: 20 mins to 1 hour. Whichever feels right with your body.
  • Whilst moving your body with the music, feel the emotions that are stuck in your body.
  • As you move, feel the emotions to unblock and be released, and feel the relief that sets in.
