STOP calling it Twitter; now we're meant to refer to it as X. The little blue bird is gone, and a black-and-white X sign has taken its place. The transformation recently announced by Elon Musk hasn't been universally embraced by users, who are sharing their grief online with a slew of various memes.

On X, the number of messages mourning the disappearance of the original name of the social network co-founded by Jack Dorsey continues to multiply. Officially inaugurated July 24 in a post by Elon Musk, the new name and logo are leaving a bitter taste in the mouths of even some of the most loyal users.

"RIP my Twitter," "Don't touch my Twitter bird," "I watched Twitter die before my eyes." There's no shortage of comments about the end of the Twitter name and branding. And many users have even gone through the five stages of grief: denial, anger, bargaining, depression and acceptance.

Others have recorded the moment when the Twitter app icon on their phone turned into an X, while others mocked the app's color change from blue to black, posting an excerpt from the movie ‘The Smurfs 2’ where Smurfette dreams she's turning evil.

Some posts with memes related to disapproval of the change have garnered nearly 50,000 retweets, 550,000 "likes" and over 14 million views, like a tweet explaining how to change the application icon on your smartphone screen to keep the old version of Twitter.

According to Visibrain, the social network monitoring tool, since Twitter became X on July 24, there have been 783,625 tweets worldwide with the mention of "my Twitter," around three times the number for for "TwitterBird" and 24 times that of "RIPTwitterBird." – ETX Daily Up, August 3. 2023
