MIC at its general assembly today unanimously passed two resolutions, including for the positions of president and deputy president in the 2024 party polls to remain uncontested.

Party deputy president Datuk Seri M. Saravanan said the resolution was made after several states submitted motions for both posts to be uncontested.

“The second resolution is for the consideration of a full pardon for former prime minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak,” he said, adding that both resolutions received the full support of 1,500 delegates at the conference officiated by MIC president Tan Sri S.A. Vigneswaran at Malaysia Agro Exposition Park Serdang today.

Saravanan said MIC would continue supporting the unity government led by Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim until the next general election, subject to the party and its president’s decision.

“Although we do not prioritise positions, the party will be uncompromising if we are not respected,” he said, adding MIC is the only Indian party in the country that has highly prioritised the welfare and education of Indians since 1946.

He said an example of this was how MIC has helped Indian students in need of financial aid by disbursing loans and scholarships via Maju Institute of Educational Development. – Bernama, November 18, 2023
