THE government has taken note of the Merdeka Centre’s survey on the one-year administration of Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim and views the report from a positive angle, Communications and Digital Minister Fahmi Fadzil said.

He said the government acknowledges the findings of the survey, which called a “snapshot” of the past year.

“As mentioned by the prime minister at the one-year celebration of the unity government in Putrajaya on November 23, next year, the government will focus on economic development, including improving people's income.

“Insya-Allah, with the Madani economy policy, the 2030 New Industrial Master Plan and efforts to combat corruption and improve government administration, including facilitating business and investment, economic growth is on track,” he said in a statement.

Fahmi was responding to a survey by Merdeka Centre survey showing Anwar’s approval ratings had slipped to 50%.

In response, Anwar said the survey had 1,200 respondents which was not reflective of Malaysia's 32 million population.

Datuk Seri Shamsul Iskandar Mohd Akin, senior political secretary to the prime minister, said the survey does not reflect the views of all Malaysians.

He said Anwar had fared better than his predecessors in similar surveys. He said Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad had polled 30% and Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin, 30-40%.

“If indeed this survey represents the entire Malaysian population, we will make more efforts to ensure that the majority of the people, these 32 million people, will be well taken care of by the government,” he said on  Bernama TV’s “Ruang Bicara” programme last night. – Bernama, November 2, 2023.
