SARAWAK people must be extra cautious as Covid-19 infections were rising in the state, Disaster Management Committee chairman Datuk Douglas Uggah said.

He said the state is liaising with the federal Health Ministry to deal with the latest situation.

Speaking in Kuching after a function, he said the committee was aware of growing case numbers.

“There are indications of rising Covid-19 infections again in the state, so the people in Sarawak must be extra careful.

“We are now awaiting directives from the federal Health Ministry on the next move; whether any new measures are needed to deal with the rising infections.

“We at the state level will work together with the federal side to deal with the latest developments on the Covid-19 infections,” he said.

On November 29, it was reported Covid-19 was still a deadly threat in Sarawak, with regular new infections and deaths recorded every month.

State Deputy Premier Datuk Dr Sim Kui Hian said the public cannot take Covid-19 lightly.

“There are people in Sarawak getting infected with Covid-19 every week, and there are people in this state who have died from Covid- 19.

“The death toll for Covid-19 in Sarawak has reached 1,793 as of November 15,” he said. – The Vibes, December 9, 2023.
