SABAH Deputy Chief Minister III Datuk Shahelmey Yahya said half the 65 projects under the federally allowed RM50-million threshold have been called for tender so far.

He said over 31 tenders have been called while the remaining will be called latest by the first quarter of 2024.

“These projects include building schools, constructing bridges, developing rural roads, and providing electricity supply,” Shahelmey told reporters in Kota Kinabalu today.

He said over 70 projects valued around RM1 million were applied and returned to be executed by the respective federal health, rural and regional development and education ministries.

Shahelmey also pointed out the projects listed under RM50 million and below, which Putrajaya has given autonomy to Sabah and Sarawak to decide early this year.

At the recent Sabah assembly sitting, Shahelmey, who is Putatan MP and Tanjung Keramat assemblyman, said 44 of the projects are expected to be tendered this year while 21 more in 2024.

His statement came in view of the serious infrastructure and electricity problems, as well as the huge number of dilapidated schools in the state.

Questions over why the developmental budget given to Sabah had gone unutilised were also raised during the recent assembly sitting. – The Vibes, December 12, 2023
