TANJONG Karang MP Datuk Dr Zulkafperi Hanapi has joined the ranks of other former Bersatu MPs in pledging support for Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim.

Like the five other Bersatu MPs who backed Anwar, Zulkafperi said he was doing it for the sake of his constituents.

“Realising the need for political stability, smooth economic recovery, and the suffering of the people burdened by the rising cost of living, I would like to pledge my support to the prime minister’s leadership from the date of this statement.

“The decision is to ensure the welfare of my constituents is taken care of, and for the sake of better infrastructural development in my constituency,” he said in a statement today.

He also pledged to support the policies and initiatives of the Madani government, which focus on the welfare, economy and development of the people, until the next general election.

“To prevent any doubts, I would like to stress that I’m still a loyal member of Bersatu and will never betray the party.

“I also wish to state that I was in no way forced or pressured to support Anwar and am doing it on my own accord and for the sake of my constituents,” he said.

He also called on all his constituents to work together and support the unity government.

The other five MPs from Bersatu who had earlier pledged support for Anwar are Bukit Gantang MP Datuk Syed Abu Hussin Hafiz Syed Abdul Fasal, Kuala Kangsar MP Datuk Iskandar Dzulkarnain, Labuan MP Datuk Dr Suhaili Abdul Rahman, Jeli MP Zahari Kechik and Gua Musang MP Mohd Azizi Abu Naim. – The Vibes, January 24, 2024
