AS MANY AS 36 Malaysian tourists were reported to be injured after the tour bus they were on was involved in a road accident in Bo Phloi district, Kanchanaburi, west of Bangkok, yesterday.
The incident happened at about 1.20pm (local time) when a group of Malaysians between the ages of 4 and 70 were traveling after visiting a safari park in Kanchanaburi, Bernama reported.
The bus driver and tour guide, both locals, were also injured in the incident.
One of the group's members, Hisyam Rahim, said the accident happened when the bus driver tried to overtake a lorry before losing control and crashing.
"Ambulances were sent to the scene of the incident to provide the necessary assistance to the victims,” he was quoted as saying by Bernama.
“We were then taken to Bo Phlai Hospital in Kanchanaburi.”
A 40-year-old Malaysian suffered a tendon injury and underwent surgery at Paholpolpayuhasena Hospital in Kanchanaburi.
The 35 other Malaysians who suffered minor injuries returned to their hotel after receiving treatment at the hospital," he added to Bernama.
The group is on a tour of Thailand from Feb 21 to 24.
Meanwhile, Malaysian Ambassador to Thailand Datuk Jojie Samuel said the consular staff of the embassy rushed to Kanchanaburi on the same day to provide any necessary assistance upon receiving information about the incident.
