ACTIVIST Badrul Hisham Shaharin, better known as Chegubard, will face more charges in the Johor sessions court tomorrow over comments on an alleged casino plan involving Forest City, Johor, said his lawyer Rafique Rashid Ali.
Rafique said Badrul will face charges over his social media post about a Bloomberg report on the alleged high-level talks about the casino project.
Badrul will head to Johor tomorrow morning to face the charges, the lawyer told reporters after the former was charged with criminal defamation and sedition at the Kuala Lumpur cybercrime sessions court this morning.
“We are not aware about the details of the charges as of yet,” Rafique said.
Badrul, while speaking to the media, said he was only commenting based on Bloomberg’s report.
Last week, Bloomberg reported that Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim had met Berjaya founder Vincent Tan and Genting Group CEO Lim Kok Thay to discuss a casino licence for Forest City.
The report, quoting sources familiar with the matter, said a casino would help revive the US$100 billion property project.
Anwar, Berjaya and Genting have denied the report.
In his Facebook post, Badrul insinuated that the alleged casino was the “financial hub” that Anwar had previously announced, and thanked Bloomberg and Singapore’s Business Times for publishing articles on the alleged talks.
Earlier this morning, Badrul pleaded not guilty to two charges of criminal defamation and sedition. – The Vibes, April 29, 2024.
