SARAWAK Premier Abang Johari Openg said he will announce in one and a half month from today the long-promised salary revision to the state's civil service.
The premier said he must study the details and implications of Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim's announcement today of hiking federal civil servants’ remuneration, at a rate of more than 13%.
The prime minister at the Labour Day celebration at the Putrajaya International Convention Centre, also said civil servants’ overall income, comprising salary and fixed allowances, must exceed RM2,000 per month starting this year.
Speaking to reporters after a Raya Aidilfitri gathering in the coastal town of Simunjan, about 43km from Kuching today, Abang Johari said the revised remuneration package for state civil servants would be better than what Anwar offered the federal civil servants.
“I have given the signal that Sarawak's should be better than what the (federal) government is offering those in the federal service.”
Abang Johari said the state could meet the financial commitments (of a better remuneration).
Yesterday, he told his staff at his office's Ramah Tamah Aidilfitri at the state legislative assembly building in Petra Jaya, that he had directed State Secretary Mohamad Abu Bakar Marzuki to study the prime minister's offer.
He was also reported by the Sarawak Public Communications Unit (Ukas) to have said: “I have something in mind which may be better than what is going to be announced on May 1”.- The Vibes, May 1, 2024.
