POLICE are trying to determine if the recent attacks on the Ulu Tiram and Dato Keramat police stations in Johor and Penang are random incidents or coordinated, said Home Minister Datuk Seri Saifuddin Nasution Ismail.
He said cops are also trying to determine if the failed attempt by two men to trespass into Istana Negara grounds and a death threat to DAP Seputeh MP Teresa Kok were also linked to these incidents.
“It is important to establish whether the recent incidents were random or part of a coordinated plan, and whether they were orchestrated by an individual or a group.
“Give the cops the space (to investigate). We view these incidents very seriously and immediately launched investigations,” he was quoted saying at a press conference in Putrajaya today.
At 2.45am last Friday, constables Ahmad Azza Fahmi Azhar, 22, and Muhamad Syafiq Ahmad Said, 24, were killed after they were assailed by a man wielding a machete. Corporal Mohd Hasif Roslan, 38, was shot.
Following the attack, police arrested five family members of the suspect, aged 19 to 62, along with two other people, all of whom were remanded for a week to assist in the investigation under Section 302 of the Penal Code for murder.
On the same day as the Ulu Tiram attack, two men attempted to trespass into Istana Negara but were arrested by police who later found a parang in their car.
On Saturday, police arrested a 35-year-old man for trying to attack a policeman and snatch the cop’s submachine gun at the Dato Keramat police station in Penang.
He was believed to have been drunk.
