THE alleged missteps of Sabah’s legal representative in the high court last week will be brought to the state cabinet this week.

Sabah Deputy Chief Minister I Datuk Seri Jeffrey Kitingan said the matter will be deliberated, and action will be taken to remedy the situation.

“This will be discussed further in the cabinet meeting, and we will make a decision,” he said when met at the launch of Petronas’ Kaamatan video at a mall in Kota Kinabalu today.

The Sabah government’s entry into Putrajaya’s appeal against the high court decision granting the Sabah Law Society leave to carry out a review of Sabah’s 40% revenue entitlement saw the state’s legal representative describing the sharing formula as merely “aspirational.”

The lawyer, Tengku Fuad Ahmad, stated this in his submission to the court last Thursday.

The Court of Appeal, meanwhile, reserved its judgment and fixed May 24 for case management while the state cabinet usually held its meeting on Wednesday.

Jeffrey was also among the Gabungan Rakyat Sabah (GRS) leaders present at the meeting at the Chief Minister’s Official Residence, Sri Gaya, the next day (Friday, May 17) to scrutinise the incident.

Others included SAPP president Datuk Seri Yong Teck Lee, Usno president Tan Sri Pandikar Amin Mulia, PBS deputy president Datuk Seri Joachim Gunsalam, LDP president Datuk Chin Su Phin, Parti Gagasan Rakyat Sabah president Datuk Seri Hajiji Noor, and deputy president Datuk Seri Masidi Manjun.

Hajiji is the GRS chairman, while Masidi is the GRS secretary-general.

According to Jeffrey, several of the leaders have demanded that Hajiji, who is the chief minister, sack the Sabah Attorney-General Datuk Nor Asiah Mohd Yusof, following the blunder. – May 20, 2024
