AN elderly woman and her 12-year-old granddaughter were found safe at 9.30am this morning after they had lost their way while heading to a durian orchard in Bukit Buluh Telur, Kuala Kubu Baharu yesterday.

Selangor Fire and Rescue Department assistant director of operations Ahmad Mukhlis Mokhtar said the victims were found about two hours after the search and rescue operation resumed today, Bernama reported.

Yesterday, Selangor Fire and Rescue Department director Wan Md Razali Wan Ismail said the search was halted at 7.20pm due to darkness and rainy weather conditions at the location.

Yesterday, the woman had called her daughter at noon to inform her that she was lost before her cellphone battery died.

Following that, her eldest daughter made a police report at 3pm yesterday.

Mukhlis said the operation today involved six personnel from the Kuala Kubu Baharu fire and rescue station and included the Malaysian Civil Defence Force, police and members of the public.

“The victims’ relatives managed to narrow down their location through the phone call,” he said in a statement today. – June 17, 2024.
