THE opposition staged a walkout at the Dewan Rakyat today following a motion to refer Datuk Wan Saiful Wan Jan (Tasek Gelugor-PN) to the rights and privileges committee.

The house turned chaotic when Datuk Seri Ronald Kiandee (Beluran-PN) stood up to question the decision of Speaker Tan Sri Johari Abdul to allow the motion.

Ronald said the matter concerned an ongoing court case involving Wan Saiful and that it would be sub-judice for the committee to discuss the matter.

“You cannot discuss matters that are considered sub-judice. It goes against the standing orders," he said.

The walkout occurred minutes before the lower house adjourned for lunch.

Minister in the Prime Minister's Department (Law and Institutional Reform) Datuk Seri Azalina Othman Said brought the motion to refer Wan Saiful to the committee in connection with his claims that charges against him would be dropped if he declared support for Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim.

Wan Saiful, a member of the Bersatu Supreme Council, has been charged with corruption in relation to the Jana Wibawa project. – June 24, 2024.
