SPARE parts worth RM 384.49 million for the Royal Malaysian Navy (RMN) were not used, resulting in wasteful expenditure, revealed the Auditor-General’s report 2/2024 tabled in the Dewan Rakyat today.

According to reports in The Star, the report also found weaknesses in the procurement of new vessels, which did not follow schedule.

The report also found that spare parts at the western fleet supply depot (DBAB) and eastern fleet supply depot (DBAT) were obsolete.

“DBAB had 1.62 million units of spare parts worth RM 381.69 million, which was not utilised between 1969 and 2017.

“DBAT had 6040 units of spare parts worth RM 2.8 million that were not utilised between 2017 and 2021,” read the report.

Meanwhile, according to reports in the New Straits Times, the AG's report also found that RM374,000 from the National Council of Professors' (MPN) funds were misused to benefit two companies in which two trustees have a stake.

According to the report (2019 to 2023), the Auditor-General found that two board of trustees members failed to declare share ownership in two companies in line with the Companies Act.

It was also found that the payment of fixed allowances for the MPN chairman and deputy chairman totalling RM207,000 was not approved by the relevant minister. - The Vibes, July 4, 2024
