EIGHT districts in Sarawak have been placed today on the highest heatwave level alert after recording ground temperature of between 35°C-37°C continuously for the past three days.
The Malaysian Meteorological Department has issued a Level 1 warning for the following districts: Miri, Telang Usan, Marudi (all three in northern Sarawak), Sibu, Kapit (both in central Sarawak), and Lubok Antu, Sri Aman and Kuching (all three in southern Sarawak).
“The heatwave alert for all the eight districts takes effect as at 6am today,” the department said in its latest update.
A Level 1 alert signifies high daily temperature of between 35°C-37°C for three days non-stop, a situation that endangers health.
State health authorities have warned people to avoid outdoor activities and to stay hydrated at all times.
The heatwave increased quite suddenly in Sarawak and was recorded starting July 27.
It was only last month that floods occurred in many districts following heavy rains. – July 29, 2024.
