THE Sarawak General Hospital (HUS) made history when it received its first organ donation from a Muslim donor on September 15.

In an official post on HUS's Facebook, the donor's family, in a state of grief, showed strength and concern as they chose to give hope and a chance at life to the recipient of the organ.

The Organ Procurement and Donation Unit (UPOH) of HUS also expressed appreciation to the donor's family for trusting the medical team to manage the donation process.

"The process was carried out in collaboration with the National Transplant Resource Centre, with a multi-disciplinary team ensuring that the organ procurement process was carried out with full dignity, sensitivity, and respect for the donor's family's religious beliefs," the post said.

According to HUS, the donation became a meaningful moment in the hospital's history, reflecting the value of humanity and the donor's family's concern in helping to give new life to others. – September 17, 2026
