RESIDENTS of Taman Desa who attended a meeting with Kuala Lumpur City Hall (DBKL) today claimed that the city council did not provide enough clarification on a proposed project they are objecting to in their neighbourhood.
Taman Desa Residents Association (TDRA) chairman Wong Chan Choy said that most of the questions raised by the residents were not fully answered.
“When residents asked DBKL officers several questions, their response was “we have taken note”. There were no concrete answers given. We felt that it was one-sided,” he told The Vibes.
The residents were invited for an engagement session with DBKL after they had submitted their protests on the development.
They claim that the proposed 40-storey Residensi Madani block and two 66-storey Suite Apartments on Lot 52959 would cause environmental and social problems apart from traffic congestion in their neighbourhood.
Wong said the meeting was not fruitful as he claimed that DBKL did not answer most of their questions. “They said they will check with their higher-ups. We hope they get back to us.”
Wong also said that if there is no reply on their meeting with DBKL on the questions raised, then they will look into their next course of action. “We will have a meeting with our committee members then decide what to do next. We will also discuss a town hall session with Seputeh MP Teresa Kok.”
TDRA vice-chairman Yap Biow Hwee said that DBKL “took note” of their questions but did not commit to anything. “We did ask about the traffic congestion, inadequate facilities and other issues. We hope that DBKL will revert soon to us.”
Wong had said the tall multi-storey buildings should not be added to the former Desa Water Theme Park area where the project is located, as Taman Desa and adjoining Danau Desa need more recreational facilities and green areas. He said about 5,000 families consisting of those living in terrace homes, apartments, condominiums, and low-cost flats will be affected.
On July 3, Mah Sing Group Bhd entered a conditional sales and purchase agreement with the Kuala Lumpur mayor for a 2.50-ha parcel of prime land in Taman Desa for RM108 million. The project, named M Aspira, will comprise approximately 1,600 residential units across 1.50 ha, and an additional 800 units of Residensi Madani on a one-hectare site within Taman Desa, located off Jalan Klang Lama and the East-West Link Expressway.
DBKL erected a signboard along Jalan Desa near the project calling on the residents to give their feedback by July 18. The residents collected more than 150 signatures from those objecting to the project, which were submitted with their objection letter to DBKL. – August 2, 2024.
