A FORMER GE15 Independent candidate has been detained for allegedly pushing a 79-year-old woman into a drain in OUG, Kuala Lumpur, last Friday.
The victim, a former Selangor hockey player, suffered injuries to her head, left hand and back.
Brickfields police chief Assistant Commissioner Hoo Chang Hook said the incident occurred about 10.30am in front of a row of shops.
He said preliminary investigations found that the victim had gone to a shop before she was allegedly followed by the suspect.
“At about 10.30 am, when the victim left the shop, the suspect, who was outside the premises, allegedly pushed her, causing her to fall into the drain.
“The victim suffered injuries to the back of her head, left hand and back and was taken to University Malaya Medical Centre (UMMC) for treatment,” he said.
The victim's friend lodged a police report at 12.37 pm on the same day, before a team from the Criminal Investigation Division of the Brickfields district police headquarters raided a house and detained the suspect.
Hoo said the suspect denied pushing the victim during initial questioning and failed to give a reasonable explanation for her actions.
"She also did not know the victim personally," he said.
“The suspect was remanded for one day, after which the Kuala Lumpur Magistrate’s Court ordered the suspect to undergo psychiatric treatment,” he said.
Hoo said the victim was kept in the emergency ward for four days before being allowed to return home on Sept 21.
“Police are still waiting for the complete medical report from UMMC, including the doctor’s statement, before the investigation paper is referred to the Deputy Public Prosecutor (DPP) for further instructions.
“The case is being investigated under Section 325 of the Penal Code,” he said. - September 25, 2026
