A FORMER aide to an MP in Johor has been charged with sexually assaulting a 16-year-old girl at a swimming pool in Batu Pahat, Johor, last month.

Zainoor Juma'at, 45, who also serves as the president of the parent-teacher association at a secondary school in Rengit, pleaded not guilty after the charge was read by the court interpreter before Sessions Court Judge Sayani Mohd Nor.

He is accused of touching the victim's body with sexual intent at a swimming pool in Sri Gading, Batu Pahat, at around 6pm on July 25, and is charged under Section 14(a) of the Sexual Offences Against Children Act 2017.

Zainoor, a father of four, faces a jail term of up to 20 years and whipping if convicted.

According to the police report, the victim claimed she was swimming with a friend when the accused approached and committed the act.

Following the incident, the victim lodged a report at the Rengit police station on August 15, leading to Zainoor's arrest.

Deputy Public Prosecutor Danial Munir prosecuted, while Zainoor was represented by lawyer Siti Aishah Rais.

The court allowed Zainoor to post bail of RM8,000 with one surety and fixed September 26 for case mention. – August 22, 2024.
