THE school bus driver who uploaded a video of a primary school student to whom he referred as his "crush" was charged today with two counts of sexual assault.

The 24-year-old accused, who was in tears, pleaded not guilty after the charges were read out to him before Judge Sayani Mohd Nor in the Muar Sessions Court

If convicted, the driver, who has 640,000 followers on TikTok, could be jailed for not more than 20 years and whipped under Section 14(a) of the Sexual Offences Against Children Act 2017.

In the first charge, the defendant, who goes by the handle “Abang Bas” on Tiktok, is accused of committing physical sexual abuse by kissing the cheek of a four-year-old girl, who is also his niece, for sexual purposes on a school bus in Simpang Renggam, Kluang district, from April to September.

In the second charge, the defendant is accused of repeatedly observing a nine-year-old girl for sexual purposes on the same school bus this month.

The man was seen crying in the dock.

Abdul Ghafar Ab Latif was the deputy public prosecutor while the accused was represented by lawyer Umar Zulkarnain.

Ghafar proposed bail at RM50,000 for each charge arguing that the case is serious and has drawn public attention.

The court allowed bail at RM30,000 for both charges and set October 10 for case mention and document submission. – September 10, 2024
