SARAWAK Pakatan Harapan wants to ensure healthy competition in gas supplies between national oil giant Petronas and Petros (Sarawak oil company Petroleum Sarawak) to ensure prices of gas are kept in check.

Its information chief Senator Abun Sui Anyit said any monopoly of gas supplies will not be good for the three million population as the rakyat will be controlled by the price monopoly.

"There must not be one entity that totally controls gas supplies in this state.

"There must be healthy competition to keep the price low and give consumers an option.

"That way too, gas supplies will not become a political tool," Abun told reporters in Miri.

Abun is from Sarawak PKR and a lawyer fighting for native rights.

Yesterday, it was announced that Sarawak is not facing any court case filed by national oil giant Petronas.

"Petronas did not file any legal case against the Sarawak government. We are not facing any court action over our claim of gas rights.

"Petronas is still in the process of negotiating with the Sarawak government and Petros (state owned Petroleum Sarawak over gas field rights and gas distribution).

"The negotiations will be proceeding," the premier’s office had said in a statement.

This follows a meeting between the top brass of Petronas, Petros and Premier Tan Sri Abang Johari Openg. - September 25, 2024
