Another longhouse fire leaves 330 homeless in interior Sarawak

FIRE  razed a longhouse around 3 pm today, leaving 330 folk homeless.

The longhouse called Rumah Niga, located along Sungai Tinjar some 120kms inland from Miri, had 46 houses built adjoining each other.

The Sarawak Fire and Rescue Department said the fire victims included the elderly, children and babies.

All of them managed to escape but a resident suffered some injuries to her limbs.

Firefighters responded to an emergency alert but the fire had swiftly swept through the wooden longhouse.

The firefighters are helping the victims at the site while the welfare authorities have been alerted.

The cause of the fire is being probed. - September 27, 2024
