A SECONDARY schoolgirl was injured after a mentally unstable man drove his car into a school compound and rammed into her in Taman Bintang, Manjung.

District police chief Hasbullah Abd Rahman said the incident happened at 5.30 pm yesterday when the man drove a white Myvi in a dangerous manner through Taman Bintang, Pantai Remis.

Witnesses reported the car crashing through the gate of a basketball court, destroying it, before the driver proceeded towards a nearby secondary school.

"He then drove towards the school hall, where a group of students were practising volleyball, and rammed into the victim before fleeing the scene."

He said the injured 13-year-old student was taken to Seri Manjung Hospital, where she remains under treatment for her injuries and reported to be in stable condition.

The 47-year-old unemployed man was arrested around 6:30 pm the same day.

The suspect is undergoing a mental health evaluation at Seri Manjung Hospital due to concerns over his psychological state.

The case is being investigated under Section 307 of the Penal Code for attempted murder. - October 24, 2024
