THE Sarawak government will not raise the minimum salary of the State Civil Service employees.
It will be maintained at RM 1,500 per month.
The state government has decided that it will follow the move by the Federal Government to raise the minimum salary to RM 1,700 per month only for private sector companies employing five or more workers.
Deputy Minister in the Premier Department, Datuk Sharifah Hasidah announced this today during the State Legislative Assembly sitting in Kuching.
"The minimum salary of employees in the state civil service in Sarawak will be maintained at RM 1,500 per month because they are also getting additional allowances of up to RM 685 per month.
"This means the minimum wage increase to RM 1,700 per month as decided by the Federal Government need not be implemented for the Sarawak civil service.
"However, the private sector companies in Sarawak having five or more employees will have to raise the minimum salary to RM 1,700 per month.
"However, for domestic maids, their pay will not follow the minimum wage structure," she said.
Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim had during the October tabling of the National Budget 2025, raised the minimum salary to RM 1,700 per month from RM 1,500.
This will take effect in February next year. - November 13, 2024
