UMNO president Datuk Seri Ahmad Zahid Hamidi has asked the Yang di-Pertuan Agong to grant former prime minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak a full pardon over his conviction and prison sentence in the SRC International case.

The request comes after the Pahang palace confirmed the existence of a royal addendum for Najib to serve out his remaining prison sentence under house arrest, issued by Al-Sultan Abdullah Ri’ayatuddin Al-Mustafa Billah Shah when he was the Yang diPertuan Agong.

"Umno appeals to the benevolence, wisdom, and justness of His Majesty Yang di-Pertuan Agong to grant a full pardon to Najib in line with His Majesty's prerogative under Article 42(1) and (2) of the Federal Constitution," Zahid said in a statement today.

Earlier today, the Putrajaya Court of Appeal granted leave to Najib for a judicial review over the existence of an addendum order.

In a split ruling, a three-member Court of Appeal bench also allowed Najib’s application to adduce new evidence when the merits of the case are heard in the High Court.

“Umno respects the ongoing legal process and will continue fighting for justice for Najib. I also want to thank Umno members and supporters for tirelessly backing this struggle," added Zahid. - January 6, 2025
