HIS Majesty the Yang di-Pertuan Agong Sultan Ibrahim today expressed his appreciation to all leaders in maintaining the country’s political stability and contributing to economic and social prosperity.
“I hope this will continue improving.
"However, the government must ensure this good performance will benefit all the rakyat and not just benefit certain quarters,” he said.
He also called on all MPs to stop politicising every issue and put the nation above party interests.
During his speech at the opening of the first meeting of the fourth session of the 15th Parliament today, Sultan Ibrahim reminded lawmakers that Parliament is not a place for heated arguments, insults, or the spreading of slander.
"Parliament is the most important assembly hall in our national system. It is the platform where the people's voices are heard, where laws are enacted, and where a system of checks and balances is carried out in the government's administration.
"It is a dignified chamber for discussing matters of public interest and national prosperity. Honourable members should serve as a unifying force for the nation, not as agents of division.
"Therefore, stop politicising every issue and do not prioritise only your party or group's interests," he said.
His Majesty also expressed concern that slander and defamation on social media are sowing confusion, hostility, and division among the people.
He said the government must take firm action to curb this culture and be proactive in providing accurate and reliable information,” he added.
The King voiced support for the government’s efforts to attract foreign investment in high-tech and digital industries.
“The strengthening of digital infrastructure, enhancement of cybersecurity, and adoption of the latest technology must be implemented without delay.
“Government services should also be upgraded using more efficient and transparent digital technology to combat corruption, abuse of power, and the bureaucratic red tape that burdens the people,” he said.
Sultan Ibrahim also called for subsidies to be distributed efficiently and effectively to those who truly qualify.
"I am grateful to see the progress of our economy, including the improved domestic economic performance and increased investments. The value of the ringgit has strengthened, and the unemployment rate remains low.
"Last year, the country's gross domestic product (GDP) grew by 5.9 per cent across various sectors, and total trade exceeded two trillion ringgit in the first nine months.
"I commend the prime minister and the government for this remarkable economic performance, and I hope it continues to improve. However, the government must ensure that this success translates into prosperity for all citizens, not just benefiting certain groups," he said.
His Majesty declared that the government must take firm action through diplomatic, legal and defence channels to safeguard the country's sovereignty and interests.
He stated that the country's rights and sovereignty must be defended, even if it concerns just a single coral in the middle of the ocean.
