THE suspect involved in a shooting at a shopping mall in Setia Alam, Shah Alam, last week, who was shot dead in Pulau Ketam this morning, managed to commit five more crimes before fleeing to the island two days ago, according to Selangor Police Chief Datuk Hussein Omar Khan.

Hussein revealed that after the shooting on February 8, the suspect, known as ‘Ah Boy,’ first escaped to Melaka before returning to Selangor. During this time, he was involved in various criminal activities, including threatening e-hailing drivers and truck drivers, as well as stealing motorcycles.

The suspect’s crime spree continued as he traveled from Klang to Melaka and spent five days there. He later moved to Banting and, two days ago, was tracked down in Sabak Bernam, where he committed a series of additional offenses including house break-ins, armed robbery, and showing firearms.

He then fled to Pulau Ketam, bringing his total criminal acts to 15.

Hussein also shared that the suspect had been active in criminal activities since 2014, having been imprisoned twice for robbery. Most of his crimes were carried out either solo or in small groups, and he had been in possession of firearms since last year.

Authorities are investigating whether Pulau Ketam was merely a stopover before he attempted to flee overseas, as well as how he acquired his weapons.

Regarding the shooting at the Setia Alam mall, Hussein did not rule out the possibility that the suspect had intended to commit a robbery.

Earlier today, Hussein confirmed that the suspect, aged in his 30s, was killed in a shootout with police at a hotel room in Pulau Ketam early this morning.

The suspect, who had 10 prior criminal records, had been on the run after he shot a cleaning staff member at the shopping mall on February 8.

Following the shooting, the suspect hijacked a vehicle and forced the driver to flee the area with him. – February 18, 2025
