POLICE have arrested four additional suspects in relation to a shooting incident that took place in Machap, Simpang Renggam, Kluang, on February 10. This brings the total number of individuals detained in connection with the case to five.

Johor's police chief, Datuk M. Kumar, confirmed the arrests, revealing that the suspects, aged between 34 and 41, were detained during a raid in Kampung Melayu Majidee at approximately 12:30 pm last Monday.

During the operation, police seized several items, including a black Sig Sauer pistol with a magazine and holster, a suspected imitation firearm, two Yamaha motorcycles, two modified Allen keys, a number of plastic packets containing substances believed to be dangerous drugs, and six mobile phones of various brands.

"Preliminary investigations suggest the seized firearm was likely involved in the shooting, but we are still awaiting confirmation through a ballistic analysis report from the Chemistry Department," Kumar stated.

According to the police chief, background checks revealed that the four individuals have prior criminal and drug-related records.

Additionally, urine tests showed that three of the suspects tested positive for methamphetamine.

Kumar further disclosed that the arrests have helped authorities solve four separate cases. Investigations are ongoing to assess the suspects' involvement in other criminal activities.

The suspects are currently under remand until February 23, aiding in investigations related to various charges under Section 3 of the Firearms (Increased Penalties) Act 1971, as well as Sections 307, 392/397, and 379A of the Penal Code.

They are also facing investigations under Sections 8 and 36 of the Arms Act 1960 and Sections 12(2) and 15(1)(a) of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952.

Another suspect, known as "Man Tiger" and aged 32, was previously arrested on February 10 at the Simpang Renggam Trade Centre. He will be charged today at the Kluang Magistrate's Court under Section 307 of the Penal Code, in conjunction with Section 109 of the same law.

The shooting incident involved a 36-year-old woman who was approached by a group of seven men, who inquired about the homeowner. One of the men then drew a firearm and fired several shots at her, though none of the bullets struck their target.

The suspects fled the scene in a Perodua Bezza, Volkswagen Golf, and Honda Civic.

Police have made significant progress in the investigation, and further developments are expected as the case unfolds. - February 21, 2025
