MALAYSIA and France have reached a new agreement to enhance cooperation across several key sectors, including defense, economy, energy, trade, investment, tourism, and artificial intelligence, announced Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim.

The agreement was discussed during a phone call today between Anwar and French President Emmanuel Macron. The conversation also revisited the outcomes of their previous meeting at the G20 Summit in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, in November 2023.

In his Facebook post, Anwar expressed his appreciation for Macron’s support in efforts to aid the rebuilding of Gaza, which has been severely impacted by ongoing conflicts.

He also noted the pair’s shared commitment to finding a diplomatic resolution for Myanmar, aiming to restore peace in the region through appropriate measures.

Looking ahead, Anwar extended an invitation to Macron and his delegation to visit Malaysia in May, with the goal of further strengthening bilateral relations between the two nations.

This move underscores Malaysia's intention to deepen ties with France across multiple strategic sectors.

On a separate note, Anwar has called on Malaysia's Cabinet to approach criticism with an open mind and address any weaknesses within the government.

In a statement shared on Facebook, Anwar stressed the importance of maintaining strong unity and solidarity within the Cabinet to function as a true MADANI government, one that authentically represents the voice and aspirations of the people.

Highlighting the challenges of the current era, including shifting geopolitical dynamics and rapid technological advancements, Anwar said the government must be agile and responsive to stay relevant and serve all levels of society effectively.

This message was delivered during the two-day MADANI Government Retreat 2025, held in Bangi, Selangor.

The Prime Minister, who also serves as the Finance Minister, described the retreat as a valuable opportunity for Cabinet members to collaborate, share fresh ideas, and develop strategies aimed at improving the welfare of the people and driving the nation's economic growth. - February 22, 2025
