A WOMAN who went into labour was dramatically rescued after a landslide cut off the main road at Jalan Ranau-Tambunan in Kampung Pahu, Tambunan, early Monday morning.

Blocked by debris and impassable roads, emergency responders had to think fast.

A medical team from Klinik Desa Tontolob quickly stabilised the woman, but she needed to get to a hospital—and fast.

With the main road buried under rubble, the rescue team had no choice but to find an alternative route.

In a race against time, local villagers, police, and passersby joined forces, carrying the woman across the landslide zone to a waiting ambulance.

She was rushed to Keningau Hospital, where doctors performed an emergency caesarean section after detecting signs of fetal distress.

Both mother and baby are now in stable condition.

“It was a race against time, and the teamwork displayed by everyone involved was truly inspiring,” said Dr. Maria Suleiman, Director of the Sabah State Health Department (JKNS), on Thursday.

“This incident shows the importance of community spirit and emergency preparedness. We are grateful to all who helped save both lives,” she added.

The Sabah State Health Department (JKNS) praised the swift action and collaboration of all agencies and villagers involved, calling it a powerful example of unity and resilience in the face of disaster. - February 27, 2025
