THE Ministry of Domestic Trade and Cost of Living (KPDN) has launched the Rahmah Madani Sales Programme (PJRM) as part of preparations for the upcoming Ramadan 1446H.
This initiative aims to ease the burden of living costs for Malaysians during the holy month, reflecting KPDN’s commitment to providing affordable daily essentials for the public, the ministry said in a statement today.
KPDN has expressed its support for Nirwana Hypermarket in Kuantan for its proactive approach to addressing the needs of Malaysians in managing the rising cost of living.
The hypermarket has participated in PJRM in Pahang since its launch on January 11, 2023. The PJRM, running for two days from February 27 to 28, 2025, offers 38 essential items at prices 10 to 30 percent lower than the market price.
As of February 26, 2025, KPDN Pahang has successfully organised 237 PJRM events across 14 parliamentary constituencies and 42 state assembly constituencies (DUN) in Pahang.
The breakdown of these events includes 119 held within premises, 2 held outdoors, and 116 held through mobile units.
KPDN Pahang, in collaboration with local authorities, is also strengthening the RAHMAH Ramadan Bazaar (BRR) programme.
This initiative aims to provide affordable iftar (breaking of fast) meals, focusing specifically on the RAHMAH Menu, which offers dishes priced at RM5 or less.
This year, six BRR locations have been identified in Pahang, namely:
1. Mahkota Square Ramadan Bazaar, Kuantan;
2. Taman Temerloh Jaya Ramadan Bazaar, Temerloh;
3. Bandar Jerantut Ramadan Bazaar, Jerantut;
4. Muadzam Shah Ramadan Bazaar, Rompin;
5. Dataran Kerayong Ramadan Bazaar, Bera; and
6. Bandar Raub Ramadan Bazaar, Raub.
The BRR programme is also taking proactive steps to promote digital business models, particularly in the retail sector, through the Retail Digitalisation Initiative (ReDI).
This initiative encourages traders and consumers to embrace e-wallets for transactions, continuing the digital push from previous years.
Combatting Subsidy Misuse and Control Price Leakages
In addition to the RAHMAH initiatives, KPDN has implemented the KITA GEMPUR initiative, aimed at combating the leakage of controlled goods and subsidies.
According to enforcement statistics from 2023 to February 2025, a total of 140,805 inspections have been conducted in Pahang, resulting in 1,578 cases and a total seizure value of RM4,194,573.98.
Furthermore, between 2023 and 2025, KPDN issued 373 notices under Section 21 of the Price Control and Anti-Profiteering Act 2011 to traders.
Thirteen investigations were opened for traders suspected of violating this Act.
From 2023 to February 2025, KPDN Pahang has also recorded 2,661 complaints. The highest number of complaints was related to pricing issues, with 790 complaints, followed by 753 complaints about online transactions, 328 complaints regarding misleading services, and several others in various categories.
Deputy Domestic Trade and Cost of Living Minister Senator Dr. Hajah Fuziah Salleh, stressed the government's commitment to supporting the public and maintaining market stability through these programs.
“The ministry continues to work closely with local authorities to ensure that all efforts are made to reduce the financial strain on the rakyat during the Ramadan period and beyond.”
KPDN's proactive enforcement and strategic initiatives are designed to ensure that essential goods remain affordable and accessible to Malaysians, particularly during this challenging time of economic uncertainty, she added. – February 27. 2025
